A blonde and a brunette :-) I love the curly Maple finish. I'm also a fan of the Blues, specifically John Lee Hooker. So the last thing I will do is have it fret leveled and crowned. The guitar plays great, a tiny bit of fret buzz. However my concern would be that the guitar might become difficult to play. I might get another one made up saying 'Blonde' :-) I've got more work to do on it though as it needs to be chromed and painted yet. I also have a custom trussrod cover that I had made that says 'Raw Power' on. Whether it is black plastic or Maple we will see. I might introduce an SG Standard pick guard. (They will help slant the pickups correctly). Do away with the present Maple pick guard and use regular pickup surrounds. I'd like to experiment with some subtle staining of the grain just to make it pop a little more. At the same time stripping off the clearcoat I put on the body a year ago. I plan on cleaning up the routing and glueing in a block of Maple and then sanding it flush. Under the pick guard the is routing made for the wires. I have a number of things I still have planned for the above pictured SG. I also wanted great a variety of sound as I could reasonably get. I had owned a 61 reissue and a friend had an Angus Young. And being the person I am had to MOD it in every way possible. I snatched one up at a very reasonable price off Craigslist. For just a few short years Gibson produced my dream guitar. So I wanted an all Maple SG, that didn't exist until a brief period in Gibson's manufacturing line of 2009. However another factor being that he used an all Maple Shergold Masquerader for a while before moving on to SG's. Part of it due to using a Vox UL730 hybrid amp no doubt. Despite the fact that Joy Divisions guitarist is not exactly revered I have always dug his edginess and raw style. I was and still am a big fan of 'Joy Division'. My motives for a Maple SG are as follows. As I try this and that whilst trying to keep it somewhat authentic. :-) The SG-RP (Raw Power) is in a constant state of flux. Happy to post more photos as soon as I figure out how to get my phone to take lower resolution photos. :-) I didn't see any threads related to the SG Raw power. At least I think it looks better, Classy and powerful. Both of these pickups I covered with nickel covers for aesthetic reasons. The 57 pickups I ended up changing out for a 'Dirty fingers' in the bridge and a 496R in the neck. All wired up with the Jimmy tone configuration. Also with variable treble bypass circuits. The electronics I changed out for 500K push/push audio pots with Paper In Oil Caps. However it doesn't look too bad now, certainly since I've replaced the full plastic pickgaurd with a maple pickgaurd. (Bit of a disappointment on that score as the wood grain is not that exciting and the body is made of 4 slabs of maple glued together. I stripped all the paint finish off and clear coated it, to show off the fact that it's all maple. I had it reduced by a professional Luther to the 1961 speed neck diameter shape and size (It's a maple neck, so it's considerable stronger than the normal mahogany necks that were prone to breaking). The neck was originally a 50's bass ball bat size. Which are good for me, however I may of devalued it as the Raw Power SG is now unavailable and hard to come by. All maple body, all maple neck, and a maple fret board.
